As part of this study, the carbon footprint of the extractor and plantations of HACIENDA LA CABAÑA S.A was evaluated using the methodology established by the RSPO. VIEW DOCUMENT
We conserve approximately 700 hectares of native forests in our plantations.
With the participation in the GEF project we are receiving advice and support to identify the different species of fauna and flora that we have in our crops and forests.
We are reforesting with native species the internal water sources of our farms; since 2011 to date we have reforested almost 10 hectares of the Guacavía river round.
We monitor and control emissions and discharges periodically to prevent contamination and comply with the requirements of the competent environmental entity in our region.
We have programs for saving and efficient use of water and energy; We make awareness campaigns to our workers on the appropriate use and monitor consumption periodically.
We also have a comprehensive waste plan; we do the separation (recyclable, ordinary and dangerous), store them properly, weigh them and finally deliver them to companies that recycle and / or give final disposal to the waste (these companies certify us and guarantee the adequate disposition of these).
We reduce the use of agrochemicals with the implementation of good agricultural practices such as:
- The sowing of mulches like Mucuna that controls the weeds, fixes nitrogen to the soil, retains moisture and contributes organic matter to the soil.
- Application of by-products (fiber, chips, rice husks) in the dish to help the emission of roots and make a mechanical barrier for insects and pests that affect the palms.
- Plateos and cleanings of streets with rotospeed to increase productivity and reduce the use of herbicides.
